What is Summer Reading?

The Summer Reading program provides fun, family-friendly entertainment for children and teens 0-17 years old, while providing the following benefits:

Slogan
  • Motivates children and teens to read.
  • Develops positive attitudes about reading and books.
  • Encourages regular use of the Library.
  • Attracts new users to the Library.
  • Offers experiences through which children and teens can learn to work cooperatively.

How It Works

1. Sign up and pick up your packet at the library. (All ages 0-17!)
2. Read or listen to books every day.
3. Read and report at least 800 minutes by August 25th to earn a paperback book.
4. Each finished reading log also enters you into grand prize drawings. ($50 Amazon Gift card)! Multiple runner-up prizes.
5. Complete Summer Reading Challenges for extra ticket(s) in the prize drawing.

Tune Trivia Friday Night - Join librarian Beth for an evening of “Rockin’ Rockers” tune trivia! Using a record player and trivia game, Beth will lead teams of 2-4 people towards victory or defeat, introducing the music and biographies of rockers through the ages along the way. Will be held at Upper Skagit Library.

Kids & Teens Gaming Afternoon - Kids and teens are invited to come spend the afternoon with their friends playing computer games on all 11 of the library computers. Play on your own device if you have one. No other library services will be available at the library.

Rockin’ In The View - Have you ever wondered what mountain ranges surround the library and Concrete? Using maps of the area we will draw and identify our mountain ranges, peaks and ridges at the library.

Concrete Youth Activity Day - Activity Day is a free day for youth and families to enjoy field games, hands-on activities, live music & entertainment, hamburgers & hot dogs, ice cream & drinks, connect with resource providers, win awesome prizes. Special Entertainment sponsored by the Upper Skagit Library at 2:30pm: Wren & Della Circus Show. Will be held at Veterans Park.

Music Maker With Heidi Larsen - Experiment with music! Make sound with mad marble runs, and try out a musical bench. Play PVC pipe instruments, and make music and light shows with movement. Loop and layer your voice, and make a twirl drum. Heidi Larsen is with Idea Hatch: STEAM programming for kids. Will be held on library lawn.

Ray Soriano Drumming Workshop - Join us on the library lawn for a hands-on drumming workshop with musician and teacher Ray Soriano. You’ll have your choice of about 30 hand drums to beat, slap, smack, and pound. Join us, and let loose your inner percussion star! Will be held on library lawn.

Library Board of Trustees

The Library Board of Trustees meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6pm in the library. The public is invited to attend.
